KARACHI: Insanitation at truck stand irks transporters

KARACHI, March 27: Leaders of Karachi Goods Carrier’s Association have expressed concern over the overflowing sewerage lines in the Hawksbay truck stand and said sewage was causing huge financial losses to the transporters.
Criticising the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, they said the stagnant rainwater, which was yet to be drained, and the overflowing sewage were not only creating hurdles in movement of pedestrians, but also spreading infectious diseases in the area people.
They said workers were suffering for the last many months due to mud and stagnant filthy water.
They said the stagnant water was damaging infrastructure and goods which, they feared, would result into suspension of their trade links with other parts of the country. It was said that roads were being destroyed and the stink emanating out of the sewage was creating serious health and environment problems.
The association leaders asked the officials of provincial and city government to intervene and get the problem solved on priority basis.
They also warned the KWSB that if the problem persisted and caused law and order situation the entire responsibility would rest with the water board.
