BCCI to discuss debacle

MUMBAI, March 26: The Indian cricket board is to analyse the national team's early World Cup elimination at a meeting next week which could lead to the sacking of the captain and coach. The 1983 winners crashed out in the first round of the event after losing two out of three group matches, to Bangladesh and former champions Sri Lanka.

The result led to a widespread demand by several former players and irate fans in India to axe captain Rahul Dravid and coach Greg Chappell.

BCCI chief Sharad Pawar said the decision on captain and coach – both Chappell's and Dravid's terms ended with the World Cup – would be taken by the committee after hearing their account of the tour.—Reuters
