Complainant in murder case slain

GUJRANWALA, March 26: A murder case complainant, who was kidnapped some 28 days ago, was found murdered along with an unidentified woman here on Monday. Reports said Muhammad Akbar (32) of Qudratabad locality, Wazirabad had got registered murder case of his brother Gulzar Ahmed in 2004. The court awarded death sentence to Babar Ali Warriach for killing Gulzar. Later, the convict asked Akbar for a patch-up but he refused.

On Feb 27, some unknown men had reportedly kidnapped Muhammad Akbar when he was on his way to offer Isha prayers in a mosque. His family had got registered a case against 12 rivals.

On Monday, some people of the area saw a body in a pond and informed the police which recovered Akbar’s body. Another body of an unidentified woman was also recovered from the pond.

Sadar Wazirabad police have registered a case and are investigating.

CHILD BUREAU: Child protection and welfare bureau chairperson Dr Faiza Asghar laid the foundation stone of blocks of child protection institute Gujranwala here on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, she expressed the hope that blocks would be completed in six months where children would be provided with better facilities of formal and technical education.

Later, the chief guest and other officials of the bureau, including Sidra Javed, sister of slain Punjab minister Zile Huma Usman, and programme incharge Zubair Ahmed Shad met with children and attended the prize distribution ceremony held at the institute.

Eight booked: Model town police on Monday registered a case against eight people under anti-terrorism act (ATA) on charges of setting a franchised bus to fire on GT Road and arrested two of them.

A private company bus had run over Asif, who was crossing the road. Over it, some people had set the bus on fire. The injured was taken to the DHQ hospital where his legs were found fractured. Police arrested accused Muhammad Usman and Muhammad Boota. Further raids are under way.
