KARACHI: Bengalis demand equal treatment

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 26: The Pakistani Bengalis Action Committee on Monday demanded restoration of legitimate rights of Bengali-speaking citizens of Pakistan, saying they were patriotic citizens of this country.

The demand came at a meeting of the PBAC held at the China Ground. Speaking at the meeting, Shaikh Mohammad Feroz, Maulana Shabbir Polani, Mohammad Shakir, Farid Bengali, Razzak Bengali, Ejaz Comrade and others deplored that Bengali-speaking people were being discriminated against and subjected to atrocities and blackmailing.

They observed that Bengali citizens were being denied education facilities, employment opportunities and basic amenities at different levels.

They complained that public representatives, despite having been voted by Bengalis in their respective constituencies, were not ready to solve the problems being faced by their electorates.

They pointed out that Pakistani Bengalis were playing their due role in the strengthening of the country’s economy.

They urged ministers and advisers to visit Bengalis-dominated localities to realise how the inhabitants were living in subhuman conditions.
