KARACHI: Ibad calls for system ensuring fitness of CNG kits
KARACHI, March 26: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has stressed the need for having a system of fitness of CNG cylinders and complete kits installed in vehicles. Presiding over a meeting held at the Governor’s House on Monday, the governor called for essential checking and monitoring in this regard.
He directed that the process of outsourcing the vehicle fitness system be pushed ahead and said that certification of CNG cylinders should be a regular feature under the laid down regulation. He said checking of CNG kits every five years was compulsory as provided in the CNG rules.
The meeting was informed that at present the city needed 20,000 buses and the federal government was providing a Rs5 billion subsidy for the induction of environment-friendly CNG buses. In this regard, cooperation would be extended to transporters for the purchase of buses.
City Nazim Mustafa Kamal said a project concept (PC-1) of the city government had been approved by the federal government and 250 CNG buses would come on roads by next month.
The Sindh governor also stressed on training of drivers and said driving schools should be made functional. He was informed that another driving school was being established in the city.
The governor stressed on the registration of vehicles as per their original specification. He directed that devolving the registration system should be examined.
In order to ensure better movement of CNG buses, the governor said that necessary infrastructure in this respect be ensured including the checking of fitness system, filling stations and other related matters.Among others, the meeting was attended by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, Additional Chief Secretaries Ghulam Sarwar Khehro and Nazar Mohammed Maher. — APP
