ISLAMABAD, March 25: Acting Chief Justice Rana Bhagwandas has said there will be no change in composition of the Supreme Judicial Council, except for Justice Sardar Raza who will no more be a member of the SJC in the presence of three senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
The acting chief justice was talking to journalists after arriving here form Karachi on Sunday. He was received at the airport by acting registrar Mohammad Ali and senior officials of the Supreme Court.
Justice Rana Bhagwandas took oath as the ACJ at the Supreme Court registry in Karachi on Saturday.
He declined to comment when asked about his possible meeting with “suspended” Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. He also did not reply when asked when would the SJC conclude its proceedings in the reference against Justice Chaudhry.
Under the Constitution, the ACJ will preside over the proceedings of the council. Two judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain and Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmad are members of the council which is scheduled to meet on April 3. It will be the fourth meeting of the council since March 9 when the president “restrained” Justice Chaudhry from functioning as the Chief Justice. —APP
