Bhootani meets Justice Iftikhar

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, March 25: Balochistan Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani on Sunday called on the non-functional Chief Justice, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, in Islamabad.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Bhootani said that he met Justice Chaudhry as a ‘Balochistani’ to express solidarity with him against the insulting treatment of the Islamabad police meted out to him when he was on his way to the Supreme Court for appearing before the apex court in connection with the presidential reference filed against him.

“It was my ethical responsibility to see him as he also belongs to Balochistan,” he said, adding that they had not discussed the reference filed against him.

Meanwhile, People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Nafis Ahmed Siddique has demanded reinstatement of Justice Chaudhry to end the judicial crisis.

Speaking at the “Meet the press” programme at Quetta Press Club on Sunday, he said: “Making the chief justice non-functional is undemocratic, unethical and unconstitutional.”
