Bomb damages police post

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, March 25: A police post was blown up in a village near Sibi, some 160km from here, and a gas pipeline was damaged by an explosion near Mastung late Saturday night.

Police sources said a powerful explosive device had been planted on the wall of the police post in the Mal-Ghshkori area, some 8km from the Sibi town, which went off on Saturday night.

“Two rooms and walls of the police post were destroyed,” they said, adding that policemen deployed there were unhurt.

The pipeline was blown up in the Paringabad area of Mastung, suspending gas supply to nearby villages. The four-inch diameter pipeline was damaged by a home-made bomb.

After the explosion, gas company officials rushed to the site and cut off gas supply to the damaged pipeline from the main system.

Work to repair the pipeline would start on Monday morning, said officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company.

Sources said militants also made an attempt to blow up the main pipeline supplying gas to Mastung and Kalat districts by planting a powerful bomb near the pipeline. The bomb went off but the pipeline was not damaged.
