ISLAMABAD, March 25: Students of Madressah Hafsa on Sunday threatened to start reconstruction of all seven mosques razed by the capital administration after the deadline ends on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference at the seminary, chief of the Hafsa Students Action Committee Humna Abdullah alongwith other senior members said the government had promised to rebuild all demolished mosques. March 26 had been fixed as the deadline for starting work. Only one day is left before the deadline expires, but there is no sign of any reconstruction work, they said.

If the government reneged on its commitment, we will start reconstruction work ourselves, they said.

One general, referring to Gen Ziaul Haq, built mosques while another, hinting at Gen Musharraf, has ordered their demolition, they added.

The students alleged that the present general was razing mosques just to please America. He demolished seven mosques within a short span of two years for the sake of his masters, the US, said Humna Abdullah.

She said every believer was shocked to hear about the razing of mosques but they did not do anything to stop this unIslamic action. We, the students of Hafsa seminary, realisng the helplessness of our brothers-in-faith, have stood up and taken upon ourselves the reconstruction of these mosques, the students said.

To oppose the demolition of mosques, we laid siege to a library which intensified pressure on the government, forcing it to agree to lay foundation of Hamza Mosque and promised reconstruction of all the other mosques, they said.

But neither Hamza Mosque has been reconstructed nor work has been started on the others, they deplored.

This shows that the government is not sincere in fulfilling its promises.

We would start reconstruction of all the seven mosques if the government fails to do so, they added.
