KARACHI, March 25: Speakers at a meeting on Sunday demanded that the killers of the slain labour leader Gulzar Begum be arrested, tried and punished immediately.

They were speaking at the first death anniversary of the unionist. A number of labour leaders spoke on the occasion.

They alleged that the murderers were being protected by a coalition partner in the Sindh government. They said the police had caught one of the killers but later released on the directives of a top Sindh official.

The labour leaders said that the government under a planned strategy was destroying the labour movement and the murder of Gulzar Begum was also part of that conspiracy.
