KARACHI, March 25: The Town Municipal Administration (TMA) of Lyari is faced with a financial crisis because of its limited sources of income.
This was stated by Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayyaz while speaking at a ceremony held here for the launching of a water project at Karabhai Karimji Road, UC-3, Nawabad and Memon Society.
The project was approved under the Tameer-i-Karachi Programme to solve the chronic problem of water shortage in the area.
The nazim pointed out that all out efforts were being made to ensure provision of basic facilities and improved sanitary condition in the town.
According to him, financial constraints have always remained a serious problem for Lyari Town ever since it’s commercial areas were merged into the Saddar Town under the devolution plan to carve 18 towns out of five districts of the city.
By virtue of the re-demarcation, Lyari Town had to lose its income generating commercial areas to the other town. Ultimately, Mr Malik added, Lyari Town had to look at the CDGK or provincial government for discharging civic duties and executing uplift projects.
On this occasion, the nazim issued directives to the officials concern to take measures for the lifting and disposal of garbage in order to improve living conditions in the UC-3.
Taking a serious note of the heaps of garbage and waste elsewhere in the area, the nazim appealed to the local residents to stop dumping domestic waste and garbage in streets and roads. He advised them to hand over all their domestic waste to sanitary staff of the local government for proper disposal.
Meanwhile, nazims and naib nazims of different UCs of the town visited the educational project of Young Lyari Welfare Centre and met the office-bearers of the centre.
They lauded the initiative and noted that the organisation was providing commendable educational services in the backward area.
