No secret diplomacy on Kashmir: Kasuri
LAHORE, March 24: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has dispelled the impression the Pakistani government is involved in `secret diplomacy’ with the Indian government over the Kashmir issue and urged the people not to mix `private diplomacy’ with `secret diplomacy’.
Kasuri told reporters after the convocation of the Beaconhouse National University at Aiwan-i-Iqbal on Saturday the final decision on the Kashmir issue would be taken by parliament and the federal cabinet in consultation with the opposition parties and public.
He said there had been a significant improvement in the India-Pakistan relations during the last three years as compared to previous years when almost one million army men from both countries were standing eyeball to eyeball on borders.
He said the Pakistan government had supported the involvement of Kashmiri leaders in dialogue for better resolution to the dispute. He said Kashmiri leaders had also met the prime ministers of Pakistan, India and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
About investigation into the Samjhota Express fire near Panipat last month, Mr Kasuri said the Indian government did not agree to a joint probe proposal. The Indian government, he said, had promised to share investigation outcome with Pakistan.
“Delhi should share investigation results with Islamabad to further strengthen relations between the two governments,” he added.
The foreign minister said his ministry was working to develop cordial relations with all countries in the world. —Staff Reporter
