Divisional engineer’s office set up at Bunair

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, March 24: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Government Assurances met here on Saturday to discuss the implementation of the assurances given by the federal minister for information technology and telecommunication on the floor of the house regarding setting up of the office of divisional engineer (phones) at Bunair district.

According to a press release, the committee, which met under the chairmanship of MNA Haji Khuda Bux Nizamani in the Parliament House, was informed by the information technology and telecommunication secretary that complying with the assurances given on the floor of the house, the PTCL created a post of divisional engineer, Bunair, at Daggar under general manager NTR- I, Peshawar.

Accordingly the MNA concerned and the minister of parliamentary affairs were informed that the assurances had been implemented.

Subsequently, the PTCL operations department was reconstructed and in order to avoid increase in the PTCL operating expenditure, the existing posts were re-designed as senior engineers (maintenances/switching) and (transmission/admin) in Northern Region, Peshawar. However, approval of separate post for senior engineer (operations) at Bunair was not granted by the PTCL Board.

The committee was further informed that after privatisation of the PTCL, the ministry had no direct control over operational decisions of the company.

The government only passes instruction on service targets and quality through

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enforce licence terms.

The committee decided to call the PTA in its next meeting to register the grievances of the members which will take up the matter with the PTCL.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Sardar Bahadur Ahmed Khan Sihar, Sher Akbar Khan, Bushra Anwar Sipra, Malik Liaquat Ali Dogar, Moulvi Mohammad Sadiq, Pervaiz Masih, Azhar Ahmed Khan Yousufzai, secretary and senior officers of the ministry of information technology and telecommunication.
