ISLAMABAD, March 24: As a part of ‘save the judiciary campaign’ the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) will hold a protest demonstration in Rawalpindi on Monday.
This was announced by ARD leader and Secretary-General Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Raja Pervez Ashraf while speaking at a press conference on Saturday.
Mr Ashraf said during their recent meeting in London, PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had decided that the two parties will launch ‘save the judiciary campaign’ from the ARD platform.
Asked if the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) had been invited to become part of the protest demonstration, he said only ARD component parties would be present on the occasion. However, after a pause, he said: “Any party which wants to express solidarity with the lawyers community can come and join us.”
He said besides Rawalpindi, protest demonstrations will take place in all district headquarters. He said the judicial crisis had become a national crisis affecting all segments of the society.
The PPP leader said it was highly regrettable that a situation had been created wherein the chief justice of Pakistan was seeking justice for himself. “Pakistan will face an irreparable loss if the institution of judiciary is not saved today,” he remarked.
