ATTOCK, March 23: Fourteen people were injured in separate incidents in the district on Thursday. The police said nine people sustained injuries when a Fatehjang-bound coach overturned after colliding head-on with another vehicle near Dhoke Hassu on Hattar-Fatehjang road.
Similarly, four persons including a woman were injured by their relatives over a family dispute at Thatta village falling in the jurisdiction of Basal police station.
Meanwhile, Kawish Idrees, a resident of Mohallah Awan Sharif, told the Attock city police that he sustained injuries when two of his rivals — Abdul Khaliq and Sheraz — attacked him with knife and wooden stick.
OUTLAWS HELD: Personnel of the Basal, Fatehjang and Bahtar police stations arrested eight outlaws and seized five pistols and three liquor bottles from their possession.
Drug-smuggling attempt foiled: An inter-provincial drug smuggler escaped from being caught by the police when they tried to stop his vehicle, near Ghorghustion Thursday evening, but the police were, however, able to recover 240 kilograms of narcotics from his abandoned pickup.
According to the press note issued by the district police officer (DPO) Attock here on Friday, the Hazaro police had put up a barricade near the Ghorghusti village, on the Terbalah Road, on Thursday evening. They did this after receiving information about an arms smuggling attempt, from NWFP to the Punjab.
When the police signalled a pickup (IDD-8904) to stop but instead of stopping the driver sped away, they became suspicious and started chasing the vehicle. Later, during chase, the driver parked his vehicle on the side of the road and fled, police claimed.
Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 230 kilograms of Hashish and 10 kilograms of Opium from it, which they confiscated.
Meanwhile, in another drug smuggling attempt, the Attock Khurd police seized 254 kilograms of Hashish from a drug smuggler, Shah Muhammad, while checking his car (Islamabad-416KB) at the Mullah Mansoor toll plaza on the GT Road. He is a resident of the Dir district.
Foiling another drug-smuggling attempt, they recovered 40 kilograms of Hashish, two pistols, 250 bullets and a magazine from two outlaws while checking a car (IDS-416) near the Haji Shah chowk on the GT Road. The culprits have been identified as Muhammad Rafique, resident of the Mardan district and Noor Muhammad, resident of the Peshawar district.
Separate cases have been registered against all accused persons by the respective police stations.
