KARACHI, March 23: An organization in Orangi Town has expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of the Government Girls Primary School, Orangi Town No 15 (OT-15), and said that the officials concerned are not interested in reconstructing its boundary wall.
Leaders of the New Muttahida Labour Organization (NMLO), an organization affiliated with the MQM, told this scribe on Friday that the boundary wall had collapsed during the last monsoon rains, and now the entire building was exposed to outsiders. Yet they claimed the authorities concerned so far had not bothered to reconstruct it. Due to this, the iron grills and electric fittings were taken away by drug addicts. Addicts could easily enter the building and used to sleep in the corridors of the school at night.
Parents claimed that despite repeated requests, the officials concerned had not repaired the toilets and furniture of the school, which had to be repaired by the teachers themselves. They added that since residents of the area were poor, they could not afford to send their children to private institutions.
