Sana stands out in Karachi win


KARACHI, March 22: Skipper Sana Mir recorded a five-wicket haul as the Karachi Region advanced to the triangular series of the PCB National women’s cricket championship, after overwhelming Pakistan Universities by five wickets at the Regional Cricket Academy Ground here on Wednesday.

Sana produced a match-winning 5-18 with her deadly off spin as Pakistan Universities were restricted to only 87 in 36.4 after the hosts decided to field first. Javeria Khan (2-16) and Masooma Junaid (2-24) also bowled well for Karachi.

Madiha Gilani, (27 not out), was the top scorer in the Universities’ total that also included 34 extras.

In response, Karachi achieved their target off only 17.4 overs while losing five wickets to enter the next stage of the tournament. Openers Nazeen Abedi (23) and Rabia Shah (19) were the notable scores for the winners.
