US against gas deal: Bodman

By Our Correspondent

NEW YORK, March 21: The United States told the Indian government on Wednesday that it is opposed to plans to build a natural gas pipeline from Iran to India through Pakistan, US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman said in an interview with a leading American newspaper. The Bush administration also warned energy companies not to do business with Iran or India and Pakistan on the pipeline project, a report in the New York Times said. “I have made it clear at the highest levels of the Indian government that the US opposes the development of the Iranian pipeline to India,” Mr Bodman said.
