ISLAMABAD, March 21: Pakistan and India will exchange on Thursday signed maps of the recently-concluded joint survey of the Sir Creek and its adjoining areas that was conducted to determine its current location.
The maps will be exchanged by the hydrographers of the two countries at the Wagah Border on Thursday morning around 10:00am, diplomatic sources told Dawn on Wednesday. Representatives of the two foreign ministries will also be present on the occasion.
The exchange of signed maps would signify an agreement between the two countries on the exact location of the Sir Creek that is said to have changed during the course of time.
After this the next step would be a meeting of the two hydrographers for discussions on the maps as well as their respective interpretations and positions on the boundaries.
The meeting is likely to take place either at the end of this month or in mid-April but it is not clear where it would be held.
At the meeting, the two sides would record their claims on map B-44 of 1914. Differences in the claims would then be submitted to the respective governments to see how to proceed on the issue.
