HYDERABAD, March 21: The Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Party (STP) on its founding day ‘Youm-i-Madr-i-Watan’ on Wednesday blamed army rule for the country’s ills and demanded complete provincial autonomy for Sindhi, Baloch, Pukhtun and Seraiki people in accordance with 1940 Resolution.

A public meeting presided over by STP Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi adopted several resolutions and said that brutal force had been used against oppressed people during the 60 years of Pakistan's history pushing the country to political, economic, constitutional and moral crises.

The situation aggravated during the last seven years under the Pervez regime, which was bent on destroying all the institutions of the government including the parliament, the judiciary and the press, the meeting said.

A resolution condemned the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan and termed the action as unconstitutional and immoral and a direct attack on its independence and honour.

The meeting demanded that Gen Musharraf should tender his resignation over assault on the judiciary and the press and a contempt of court case should be filed against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

A resolution demanded that the police officials responsible for ransacking the Geo TV office should be punished.

The meeting termed handing over all the important ministries to MQM including the governorship as a robbery on Sindh’s sovereignty and demanded removal of Sindh governor and end to MQM’s rule.

The meeting demanded that the right to purchase property and right to vote of all the people who had settled in Sindh after 1954 should be withdrawn and they should be issued only work permits.

The meeting rejected outright the construction of Kalabagh and Bhasha dams, Greater Thal Canal and other anti-Sindh projects on the River Indus and demanded that the historic rights of Sindhis over the river should be accepted.

A resolution demanded that the decision to sell two islands should be rescinded and people’s right over the islands should be acknowledged.

The meeting demanded an end to army operation in Waziristan and work on mega Gwadar project and stressed that the right of Baloch people over their mineral and natural resources should be acknowledged.

The gathering slammed the incarceration of Baloch National Party Chairman Akhtar Mengal and other Baloch leaders and workers, in camera trial of BNP leader, enforced disappearance of nationalist activists of Sindh and journalists.

The meeting called for making all the provincial and regional languages of Pakistan national languages. The meeting slammed the demolition of Sindhi villages in Karachi and demanded an end to conspiracy to separate Karachi from the rest of province.

The meeting showed reservations over opening Khokhropar route and said that it was part of a conspiracy to convert Sindhis into a minority. The worst fears of Sindhis had been realised as thousands of people entering through this route were being settled in the province under the patronage of MQM, the meeting charged.

The meeting demanded that Khokhropar-Munabao railways service should be stopped and the people of Thar and Rajasthan should be allowed to enter Sindh through Rahdari system.
