GUJRANWALA, March 21: People have criticised the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for installing defective machines at its kiosks. The Nadra had established several kiosks in various parts of the city, including Dhulley, Sheikhupura Morr, Trust Plaza, Fata Mand and Popular Nursery and asked the people to deposit their utility bills there round the clock following their registration. Scores of consumers had got themselves registered with Nadra for the purpose.

A number of consumers told this correspondent that billing machines were not accepting any currency note except a new note of Rs20 denomination while it disconnected time and again. They said the machines did not accept utility bills after due date.

They said the district registrar used to collect cash during office hours as a result of which people had to wait for an hour to deposit bills. When contacted, a Nadra officer said the system would be upgraded soon after introduction of new currency notes in the market.

PROBE: The executive district officer on Wednesday started an inquiry against City District Government Gujranwala (CDG-G) vehicle supervisor for stealing spare parts and recorded statements of two official drivers.

Reports said official drivers Syed Nazir Husain Shah and Nazir approached district nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha and apprised him that vehicle supervisor Muhammad Aslam was involved in embezzlement as he changed the new engines of official vehicles with old ones and sold parts in market.
