KARACHI: Pir Mazhar files plea for acquittal

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 21: Former provincial minister and leader of Pakistan People’s Party moved applications on Wednesday for his acquittal in two corruption references in an accountability court.

Administrative judge of the ACS, Aley Maqbool Rizvi, who is also the in charge judge of AC-3, issued notice to the special public prosecutor for March 26 for hearing arguments on the two applications, filed by defence counsel Shahadat Awan under Section 265-K of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The references against the former Sindh minister for housing and town planning pertained to regularisation of amenity plots in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in violation of rules and regulations in 1997.

Three co-accused persons, who were tried earlier, were acquitted by the accountability court.
