KARACHI: Bandit killed in shootout

KARACHI, March 21: A suspected bandit was shot dead early on Wednesday morning in Orangi Town by a team of the Lyari Task Force. Police said the LTF men in plainclothes were travelling in a private car when two bandits tried to loot them. They said the dacoits opened fire on the police party who retaliated and hit one of the suspects.

DSP Hafeez Junejo of the LTF said the injured suspect was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he died.

Hospital sources said the man, who was in his late 20s, received a bullet in his upper torso from a close range as the bullet had pierced his body.

He said the LTF team had also seized an unlicensed pistol and two cellular phones from the injured suspect. He said the police found the photo copy of an old national identity card which showed his name Naseem, son of Zareem Khan. “However, the address on it is fake”, he added.

Sohrab Goth police said an unknown caller informed them that the body was lying at a desolate place behind Diamond Terrace.

It was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors said the victim had received two bullets, one in the head and the other in the neck. They said the victim, who looked an Afghan, was in his early 20s.

The body was later kept in the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth as the dead man remained unidentified.

ACCIDENT: A two-year-old boy was run over by an oil carrier near the ICI Bridge in the Kalri police area.

Police said the minor, identified as Adil, son of Wazeer Ahmed, and his mother were crossing the road when the boy was hit and killed instantly.

The police arrested the driver, Laal Khan, and impounded his vehicle.
