Probe against EDO for selling guess papers to students

SAHIWAL, March 19: The Sahiwal district nazim has ordered an inquiry against the executive district officer (EDO) of education for allegedly printing pre-examination guess papers and forcibly selling those to students of primary and middle schools.
These papers reportedly carried the photographs of District Nazim Rai Hasan Nawaz, District Coordination Officer Mian Ana’amul Haq and the EDO (education) Muhammad Sohaib Imran. The papers were sold to students of primary classes for Rs40 per copy and to middle classes Rs60 per copy. The inquiry committee will be headed by the EDO (Revenue) and members include the EDO (Finance and Planning) and Javed Zafar and Shakeel Khan Niazi, union council nazims.
There are 864 primary schools and 259 middle schools in the district.
SHOOTOUT: An alleged outlaw was killed and three villagers were injured in a shootout in Chak 35/12-L on Sunday. Five armed people broke into the house of Dr Talat Mehmood and held captive the family. Viewing the situation, villagers challenged outlaws, who opened fire and injured three villagers. The villagers retaliated against the outlaws with fire and killed one while the remaining four fled. The identity of the intruder could not be ascertained. Police registered a case under section 302/324 of the PPC.
PROTEST: Lawyers of the District Bar Association continued their hunger strike on Monday and wore black armbands in protest against the suspension of the chief justice of Pakistan. Addressing lawyers, speakers condemned the government for attacking the judiciary and the media. They vowed to continue their strike till the restoration of the chief justice. Reporters also took out a protest procession to condemn police torture on reporters in Lahore. They carried banners inscribed with slogans ‘Remove Wasi Zafar and Durrani’. Later, reprter’s rally joined the protesting lawyers.
Advocates Sheikh Muhammad Usman, Abdul Mateen Chaudhry, shahed Ahmed Penwal and journalists Imtiaz But, Azizul Haq Goraya, Rashid Akmal and Syed Tamtraq Shah addressed the procession.
MNA Qazi Hamidullah Khan also expressed solidarity with lawyers and journalists.
