KARACHI: Eclipse ends with light showers

KARACHI, March 19: The city received light rain on Monday morning that continued with intervals till evening with North Karachi getting the maximum rainfall of approximately 53mm, the meteorological office said.

Though there was a partial solar eclipse in the morning but owing to the cloudy weather a very few Karachiites could witness the phenomenon. The partial eclipse began at around 5.38am and ended at 9.25am with maximum magnitude of 87 per cent witnessed at 7.32am.

The met office has forecast partly cloudy weather for Tuesday. The rain weather system which came from Iran has moved to north-east reducing the chances of further rain in the metropolis. The minimum temperature is likely to remain between 20 and 22 degrees centigrade on Tuesday.

According to the met office, PAF Base Masroor received 17mm of rain, Gulistan-i-Jauhar received 10.3mm, airport received 2.4mm and PAF Base Faisal received 2mm of rain on Monday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22 degrees centigrade and the maximum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees centigrade with 66 per cent humidity.

The low laying areas were inundated with rainwater owing to which commuters faced difficulties in getting transport while many of the public transport vehicles went off the road.
