KARACHI: No need to declare emergency: nazim

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 19: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said the city government managed to drain the accumulated rainwater from the city within hours of the rain and there was no need to declare rain emergency on Monday.

Talking to Dawn, he said no emergency was declared in the city following rain and everything remained under control due to pre-emptive measures taken by the city government. “Rainwater was not accumulated on roads where we have installed storm water drainage system. We not only drain water from our areas but from those places, which are not fall in our jurisdiction,” he said.

The nazim said since Sunday night the city government activated its complaint centre besides activating its workforce to drain water in case of rain. “Our arrangements were so satisfactory that we did not need to declare rain emergency,” he added. He urged citizens to contact 134 or toll free number 0800-12012 in case of rain emergency.
