Man shot dead on resistance

SAHIWAL, March 17: Robbers killed a man and injured another on offering resistance here on Saturday. Reports said Ali Mardan, a government employee, was returning to his village 71/4-R with his brother Lal Husain when some dacoits intercepted them and opened fire on resistance. As a result of which Lal Husain was killed on the spot while Ali Mardan suffered injuries.

In another incident, four armed bandits looted the house of Dr Muhammad Amin Khan in Noor Park locality after locking his wife and children in a room. They decamped with valuables amounting to Rs110,000.

Police have registered the cases.

SUICIDE: A woman committed suicide after a quarrel with her mother-in-law and husband here on Friday at Chak 70/4-R.

Reports said Hafizan, mother of two children, had sour relations with her mother-in-law and husband. On Friday, she strangled herself after a quarrel with them.

Noorshah police have handed over the body to her relatives after autopsy.

SUSPENDED: The district police officer on Saturday ordered suspension of three Rescue-15 staffers and asked them to report to police lines.

Head constable Irshad and constables Tanveer Ahmed and Abdul Naveed were found negligent in discharge of duties by ASP Fida Shah.

BOYCOTT: The district bar association on Saturday continued boycott of courts and observed hunger strike.

Scores of lawyers, including Abddul Mateen Chaudhry, Iftikharul Haq Khawar, Mian Islam and Sheikh Usman, observed hunger strike at the bar room to express solidarity with the chief justice of Pakistan. They also condemned attack on a private TV channel in Islamabad.
