Protest against police attack on TV channel

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, March 17: Scores of journalists hailing from Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura districts took out a protest rally here on Saturday. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with anti-government slogans to express solidarity with the journalists of Islamabad.

Addressing at the local press club, speakers said assault on a private TV channel in Islamabad had exposed the government’s claim of freedom of press. They said the government wanted to cover up its wrongdoings by attacking the media.

The speakers said the government was hoodwinking the nation by suspending a police inspector and 14 constables for attacking the office of the TV channel.

Later, the journalists passed a resolution, demanding restoration of constitutional norms in the country.
