LAYYAH, March 17: Hafiz Jamil Ahmad was declared elected as Layyah tehsil naib nazim while Chaudhry Muhammad Husain won the election of Choubara tehsil naib nazim after a very close contest on Saturday.

Hafiz Jamil was decalred winner when his opponent Muzaffar Iqbad Dhool withdrew his nomination papers on Friday evening.

Chaudhry Muhammad Husain won by the margin of one vote. He secured six votes while his rival Tasaddaq Husain managed to get five votes.

The election has exposed deep political differences in the ruling PML in Choubara. Tehsil nazim Sardar Qaisar Abbas Magsi nominated his own candidate against former district nazim Sardar Shahabuddin Khan Sehar who is also a district leader of the PML.

PROTEST: The Layyah District Press Club and District Union of Journalists jointly held a protest rally on Saturday to condemn ransacking of a TV channel office in Islamabad by police.

Journalists staged a sit-in outside the press club here. They wore black armbands against the incident and beating up of newsmen in Islamabad and other cities. Later, they took out a rally, led by president Riaz Ahmad Rohani, from the press club which terminated at the Layyah Minor Bridge. Representatives of political parties, including PPP former MNA Ghulam Farid Mirani, PML-N MPA Ejaz Ahmad Echlana, PML-N district president Chaudhry Majeed Javed and Jamaat-i-Islami district president Mubashar Naeem Chaudhry, also took part in the rally.
