KARACHI: EU ban on seafood

KARACHI, March 17: Speakers at a seminar on Saturday expressed concern over the European Union’s ban on the import of seafood from Pakistan, saying this would badly affect the country’s seafood industry livelihood of poor fishermen.

They also criticised the role of the federal ministry of food and the Marine Fisheries Department in this regard, and demanded a high-level inquiry to ascertain the causes and factors leading to the ban.

MNA Abdul Waseem , FCS Director Ahmed Zamir, senior directors Haji Shafi Mohammad Jamote, Haji Mohammad Yunis and Salim Deedak were among the speakers at the seminar which was organised by the Fishermen Cooperative Society.

Mr Zamir briefed the participants about the EU inspectors visit. — Staff Reporter
