ISLAMABAD, March 16: Installation of 60 security cameras in the Parliament House would cost Rs10 million, a senior official of the CDA said on Friday. In the first phase, the cameras would be installed at all important points of the building, he said.
The security measures are being taken in view of deadly suicide attacks in the federal capital and at Islamabad airport. The interior ministry has decided to beef up security of important buildings of the federal capital.
He said the CDA had sought assistance of intelligence agencies in installation of security cameras to ensure foolproof security of parliament.
Despite increase in the number of security guards and strict checking of visitors, the government has decided to install close circuit security cameras at all exit, entry point of the parliament house and inside it, he said.
According to the intelligence reports some six suicide bombers had entered Islamabad and two of them had done their job— one at Marriott Hotel and the other at Islamabad Airport. The remaining four are still at large and they are believed to be hiding in the capital for more suicide bombings. They can attack important buildings in the capital, the reports said.
The official said the interior ministry had directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to install close circuit cameras at all entry, exit points of the parliament house and inside it to avoid any attempt of terrorism in the building.
He said at present two cameras had been installed at the main gate of the Parliament House.
The interior ministry also took serious note of inordinate delay in installation of security cameras by the CDA in the Capital.
The ministry believes that increasing incidents of suicide attacks and terrorism could be controlled with the installation of security cameras in the capital.
It has been decided that a total of 180 security cameras would be installed in Islamabad. It will help law enforcement agencies to control and maintain law and order, identify criminals, terrorist, law breakers, traffic violators and over speeding vehicles. It would also enhance security of foreigners in Islamabad, the official said.
