LAHORE, March 16: The Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami announced on Friday that it would observe black day on Saturday against arrests and torture of MMA leaders during a rally in the city.
The Jamaat claimed that Qazi Husain Ahmad was arrested from Islamabad and Liaquat Baloch and Farid Piracha from Lahore.
The acting amir of the provincial organisation, Azhar Iqbal Hasan, said in a press statement that the treatment meted out to the participants in a rally at Nila Gumbad was an example of ‘state terrorism’.
The Jamaat condemned the attack on the Islamabad office of a private television channel saying it was an assault on the freedom of the press.
The Shabab-i-Milli, the Jamaat’s youth wing, and the Islami Jamiat Talaba also condemned the arrests and baton charge on the rally and said the regime was out to undermine all the state institutions one by one.
JUP: Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan amir Ans Noorani condemned the police assault on the TV channel.
He said in a press statement that the movement for the restoration of democracy, the 1973 Constitution and state institutions would continue.
