KARACHI: People face hours-long power cuts

KARACHI, March 16: Prolonged power failures hit various localities on Friday following a major fault that developed in the main transmission line at Pipri. A KESC spokesman claimed that the fault tripped the system in Pipri in the evening but it was rectified and normal power supply was restored within one hour.

The spokesman said that the disruption affected only a potion of Baloch Colony. However, another source in the KESC said that PECHS, parts of Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Tariq Road, Ferozabad, Sindhi Muslim Society, CP Barar Society, KDA Scheme-1, Bahadurabad, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Pahelwan Goth and several other localities suffered power failure for several hours.

Callers from PECHS said power supply to the area was suspended at 1.30pm and until 9pm people were still waiting for its restoration. “People expected that KESC’s new administration will improve the quality of service, but nothing had changed so far. The KESC should better be taken over by the government,” commented a consumer.

A complainant from Channesar Goth said that power supply to the areas was suspended 8am and restored at 2pm, adding that it was again suspended at 6pm for another two hours.

Residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Clifton also complained of prolonged and intermittent power suspension on Friday.
