KARACHI, March 16: The city government has imposed a ban on the transportation of plastic bags from other cities to Karachi. Speaking at a meeting to review arrangements regarding the ban on polythene bags, the nazim said stern action would be taken against those found bringing polythene bags into the city from other provinces.

He said teams comprising officials from various departments had been formed to implement the ban on the manufacture, sale and use of plastic bags in the city. The police have been told to curb its transportation from other provinces. He said violators will face six month imprisonment or Rs50,000 fine.

The nazim asked the citizens to help make the campaign successful and stop using plastic bags. He also asked NGOs and social organisations to participate in the drive along with city government and launch awareness campaigns to educate and motivate citizens to the use of plastic bags.
