Leather industry in crisis

SIALKOT, March 16: Sialkot’s export-oriented split-leather industry has been suffering from serious crisis due to the shortage of the material in the market caused by it exports on a large scale. Consequently, export the products made from split leather is continuously declining.

In a press release issued here on Friday a number of affected split leather manufacturers expressed grave concern over the situation and urged the government to immediately impose a ban on the export of split leather to save the local industry from severe crisis, which provides jobs to thousands of workers.

They further demanded a special package of incentives for the industry to help it survive in the present free trade era.
