FAISALABAD, March 15: The district bar association on Thursday suspended the membership of provincial literacy minister Dr Shafiq Ahmed, Iqbal Town nazim Sajjad Cheema and 23 others for attending lawyers’ convention arranged by the Punjab Chief Minister in Lahore the other day.

Those who have been suspended include, Sajad Murshad Gill, Mian Muhammad Jamil, Muhammad Anwar Bhatti, Naveed Anwar, Rana Tariq Majeed, Rana Musharraf Ali, Imtiaz Sadiq, Aleem Talib Chattha, Zafar Iqbal, Shahid Iqbal Bulandia, Mazharullah Shehzad, Mehmood Akhtar, Faisal Sultan, Khawer Zubair, Waris Ali, Shahid Ansari, Muhammad Iqbal, Aamir Raza, Nadeem Akhtar, Abdul Sattar, Amjad Ali, Mudassar Sultan and Khalid Mehmood.

Notices have also been issued to members for reply within one day.

SAHIWAL: The district bar association on Thursday announced the suspension of 16 lawyers’ membership and moved the Punjab Bar Council to cancel their licenses as well.

The lawyers whose membership has been suspended are: Naveed Aslam Lodhi, the son-in-law of provincial agricultural minister Muhammad Arshad Lodhi, Jamshaid Mardana, Maqsood Ahmed Dhillon, Malik Munir Sarwar Dhakoo, Muhammad Yasin, Qaisar Ibad Bukhari, Muhammad Farooq Lodhi, Tahir Saeed, Rana Babar Masood, Malik Nazar Hussain, Ejaz Bhatti, Rai Azhar Bushra, Tariq Khurshid, Abdul Shakoor, Muhammad Saleem Gadhi and Muhammad Siddique Baloch.

SHEIKHUPURA: The bar’s executive body suspended the temporary membership of six lawyers — Haji Naeem Husain Chattha senator, his son Abid Hussain Chattha MPA, PML city president Chaudhry Zafar, Abdul Wadood and his son Faisal Wadood and Ghazanfar Bhatti.

VEHARI: The Burewala bar association cancelled the membership of provincial transport minister Ghulam Mohyuddin Chishti.

Vehari bar president Rana Sajid said the membership of 11 members would be cancelled in few days.

OKARA: The DBA suspended the membership of nine lawyers, incuding Rai Muhammad Khalid Kharl, Amjad Pervaiz, union council nazim Syed Ali Ikram Gillani, Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar, Rai Ashfaq Ahmad Kharal, Shafique Rehman Lashari, Muhammad Asif and Rana Muhammad Akbar.

BAHAWALPUR: Scores of lawyers of high court and district bar associations observed a token hunger strike and stayed away from court proceedings on the fourth consecutive day.

SIALKOT: Lawyers in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Shakargarh and Narowal observed a hunger strike and did not attend courts

GUJRANWALA: Lawyers in a meeting presided over by bar president Ilyas Rehan decided that membership of 40 lawyers would soon be suspended.

Bar members also suspended court proceedings and took out a protest procession.

KASUR: Lawyers in Kasur, Chunian and Pattoki boycotted courts and observed the hunger strike.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The local district bar association cancelled the membership of 17 lawyers.
