PESHAWAR, March 15: The People’s Students Federation on Thursday held a demonstration to protest against restraining Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry from acting as the Chief Justice and the president’s reference against him.

Activists of the PSF, led by its provincial president Ijaz Yousafzai, gathered in front of the Peshawar Press Club to lodge a protest against the “unconstitutional removal of the Chief Justice”. PSF’s provincial senior vice-president Javid Khalil, Saiful Islam Afridi, Malik Amjid, district president Malik Abid and Zahir Afridi also participated in the demonstration.

The protesting students were holding placards inscribed with demands for reinstatement of Justice Iftikhar as the Chief Justice. They also asked the army to return to their barracks.

They said they would not allow any one to violate the 1973 Constitution. They alleged that an individual was bent upon destroying institutions of the country and he had made the Constitution non-functional by restraining Justice Iftikhar from acting as the Chief Justice.

They maintained that the Chief Justice was punished for not giving decisions according to the wishes of the rulers.

They said the PSF would continue its struggle for revival of the 1973 Constitution and ensuing real democracy and protection and stability of state institutions.
