KARACHI, March 15: President of Supreme Court Bar Association Munir A. Malik has called upon the legal fraternity to continue its struggle for the independence of the judiciary.

He said this in a letter circulated among lawyers on Thursday before his departure for Islamabad to appear before the Supreme Judicial Council on behalf of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Friday.

The SCBA chief said that “during such critical periods, sacrifices would have to be made and bar members seek the co-operation of citizens in this regard.”

The bar leadership would “strategically make calls for action so that the might of the dictator be made subservient to the rule of law and the independence of courts be recognised for all times to come,” he said.
