KARACHI, March 15: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for early implementation of the proposed police system to control crime, regulate traffic and improve security system by dividing the city into three police zones and giving investigation and operation wings under one command.
The governor issued the directive while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House here on Thursday. The meeting reviewed the measures taken so far to control crime in the province.
It also reviewed the progress made towards introduction of e-policing and creation of security zones in Karachi.
Pointing out that the operations and investigations wings at the police station level would remain separate though in harmony with the Police Order, he said at the DIG level only, the two wings would worked under one command. He recalled that the three-zone police system, which used to be implemented on ad hoc basis on different occasions for controlling crime and traffic had worked perfectly well and, as such, should now be adopted on a permanent basis.
He called for organising the police helpline, Madadgar 15, as a call centre, and directed that work be geared up on a computerised integration of all police stations, installation of surveillance cameras in the security zones, streamlining of command control system on modern lines, video conferencing, tracking system for police vehicles, FM radio channel for police, and necessary training of police personnel in e-policing, for which a three-storey building at the Central Police Office had been allotted.
The governor also stressed on community policing and, in this context, issued directives for more effective measures to check dacoities and robberies.
He called for implementation of community policing in all towns of Karachi, besides all districts of the province.
