LAHORE, March 14: Fancied chestnut colt Harry Can Run outclassed his rivals to win the feature event, contested over 1100metre, during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The colt that was trained by Rashid Latif beat Daisy Against All by a distance. Black House and Koshaliya completed the frame. This was the fifth and last race of the day.

The midweek races attracted a small crowd of around 1,000 fans perhaps due to small fields of the events and a couple of weak riders riding comparatively less popular horses which looked a mockery of the equine sport.

To the dismay of the fans, dark bay filly Tan Man Dhan, which was the hot favourite to conquer the fourth and supporting event, was poorly handled by her rider, M. Hussain. She was beaten by another bay filly Armida.

Such performances by inefficient, weak and notorious riders only added to bring bad name to the genteel sports.

Two favourites and a joint favourite won in a small card of five races with tiny fields. The first race had six runners, second had eight, third and fourth had six and the fifth race had seven runners. This shows lack of interest by the owners to run their horses in the midweek Gymkhana races.

Riding boys M. Wasim Khan and Ali Raza shared the day's honour. The former brought in three winners while the latter piloted home a brace of winners.

Trainer Sohail Aziz saddled two winners – Mama Mia and Armida owned by Syed Pervez Hussain Shah.
