Govt has empowered women: governor
KASUR, March 14: The government has taken measures through legislation to help women get their rights in society, Governor Khalid Maqbool said while addressing students at the Chunian Degree College for Women on Wednesday.
He said the government’s measures had discouraged women’s marriage with the Holy Quran, denial to their share in inheritance and other cruel traditions.
The governor announced that a multipurpose building costing Rs30 million would be constructed for the college and two buses would be provided to the college to give pick-and-drop facility to the students.
He said post graduate classes of English, political science and economics would be launched at the campus and 11 more lecturers would be recruited for the college to resolve the shortage of staff.
The governor said the Punjab government would recruit 70,000 teachers and 4,000 lecturers to end shortage of teachers in far-off schools.
He said the Punjab government had allocated Rs2 billion to provide facilities to 142 colleges. He said the government was spending billions on education which would bring about revolutionary changes in the country.
He said these measures helped the government increase women’s enrolment in schools and universities.
He said the government had launched many projects in Kasur that included provision of gas, construction of duel road and cleanliness of Rohi nullah. The governor ordered an inquiry into the alleged use of substandard material in the construction of Multan Road from Chhanga Manga to Chunian.
On the complaint of students, the governor ordered improvements in the college canteen and computer laboratory.
About 20 journalists were allowed to enter the college after a pandemonium of about half an hour. Earlier, security forces restricted the entrance of all reporters citing security reasons.
A delegation of lawyers also met the governor and he ordered the construction of lawyers’ chambers and allocated 58 acres for a residential colony for lawyers.
MPA Sheikh Allauddin said Ecnec had approved the construction of a flyover in Chhanga Manga.
