PESHAWAR, March 14: Four candidates affiliated with major political parties have filed nomination papers for the presidential elections of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association to be held on March 31.
According to an initial list of candidates released by the association’s election commissioner Khwaja Muhammad Gara, the candidates are: Abdul Lateef Afridi of Malgaray Wakeelan (affiliated with the Awami National Party); Abdul Sattar Khan of the Muslim League Lawyers Forum (Nawaz); Akhtar Ali Khan Nahki of the Muslim League Lawyers Forum; and, Muhammad Khurshid Khan of the People’s Lawyers Forum (affiliated with the People’s Party Parliamentarians).
Mr Jalaluddin was elected library secretary unopposed. Four candidates are in the run for the posts of vice-president, secretary-general and joint secretary.
The candidates for the post of vice-president are: Abdul Fayyaz, Ummi-i-Farhat, Noor Alam Khan and Naveed Akhter. The candidates for the post of secretary-general are: Ishtiaq Ibraheem, Muhammad Isa Khan, Nek Nawaz Khan and Muhammad Khursheed Khan.
Barrister Waqar Ali Khan, Shahid Qayum, Muhammad Jamal Afridi and Fazl-i-Akber have filed papers for the post of joint secretary.
Haji Sher Bahadur and Arshad Ali are contestants for the post of treasurer. Advocates Zeb Alam Khan and Mujahid Farooq got elected unopposed as executive members from Mardan and Malakand, respectively.
The last date for clearing dues by the members is March 15, whereas the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 19.
Apart from the election commissioner, other members of the commission are: Syed Sardar Hussain, Khizar Hayat and Bilal Durrani.
