KARACHI, March 14: The advisor to chief minister for home, Waseem Akhtar, has ordered reconstitution of purchase committee following the reports of serious irregularities committed in procuring uniforms and other articles for Sindh police.

Officials said the procurement for police department previously done on centralised basis would now be made through the purchase committee having members from the home, finance and industries departments. They said the home advisor issued orders to this effect in his letter to home secretary on March 12.

The officials said the procedure followed for procurement of uniform and other articles for police department was highly flawed and arbitrary.

The advisor in his letter to the home secretary said that it was necessary to reconstitute the purchase committee to maintain transparency.—Staff Reporter
