KARACHI: Work reviewed at shrine


KARACHI, March 14: The Senate Committee on Housing and Works on Wednesday reviewed the development works being carried out at the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan Sharif.

Senate Committee Chairman Dr Mohammad Ali Brohi presided over the meeting during which the contractor gave a briefing about the progress of the work.

According to the contractor, 90 per cent work has been completed and the remaining works will be completed in 60 days. However, the committee expressed concern over the quality of work at the shrine’s dome and instructed the contractor to ensure quality and durable gold work of the dome. Besides, he was asked to ensure proper drainage system at the shrine and timely completion of the galleries and the stairs in time.

The committee also instructed him to make proper drainage system for the removal of the rainwater coming into the shrine from the surrounding areas.

The Senate Standing Committee also observed the performance of Pak PWD. A presentation on the development work so far done by Pak PWD regarding schemes being executed under Tameer-i-Pakistan Programme sponsored by parliamentarians in Sindh during the period 2002-2006.

The meeting was informed that out of 1,381 funded schemes, 1,288 have been completed while work on 82 was in progress under the Khushal Pakistan Programme-1. Also 190 schemes have been completed out of 308 fully funded schemes, while 99 are in progress under the KPP-II for period 2002-06.

The Pak PWD also gave a presentation on the progress of development schemes initiated under the PSDP and in the light of prime minister’s directives in Sindh during the period.The committee showed satisfaction over the allocation of budget during the period 2002-2007 for central electrical and mechanical division and store and works division indicating year-wise details of expenditures made against each head, details of award of contract and criteria adopted for award of these contracts.—PPI
