Top contenders to fight for spoils

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, March 13: An ordinary card of five events comprising tiny fields awaits race-goers at the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The feature and the supporting events will be run over 1100 metres while the other three will be decided over the sprinting distance of 900 metres. In all, 34 acceptors will be contesting the events barring last-minute withdrawals.

Four-year-old bay filly from Cry For The Clown out-of- Tweety, Tan Man Dhan, who is yet to win, should break her duck on the horses' victory statistics table by winning the supporting and fourth event, the Jhelum Plate class V division 11 over 1100 metres.

Tan Man Dhan, bred at Arbab stud farm in the NWFP looks day's best bet to be followed by Armida and Golden Faith. Only five horses are to contest the event.

The fifth and feature event, the Jhelum Plate class V division 1, has eight runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of them Harry Can run, Daisy Against All and King Of Murad are the form horses. They should fight for the spoils in the same order.

Faryal, Prince Salman and Mama Mia are the pick of seven runners drawn for the third race, Khushab Plate class VII division 1 over 900 metres. The distance suits Faryal to edge out Prince Salman, who put up a dismal show in her previous outing.

Murad King, Royal Palace and Simoom look good in the second race, a class 1 and 11 combined handicap race to be run over 900 metres.

The distance goes in favour of Murad King and Simoom to decide about the winner. Murad King has a slight edge.

The opener looks a fight between three runners, namely, Wah Cisco Wah, Black King and Tosca.
