GUJRANWALA, March 13: Police on Tuesday arrested three people, including a lawyer, on charges of throwing garbage at the office of district nazim while three lawyers got an interim bail.

Reports said different organisations, including the district bar association, took out a procession on Monday against lack of sanitation in the city and dumped garbage inside the office of district nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha. Later, the civil lines police had registered a case against over 200 people, including bar president Ilyas Rehan, former president Pervez Ahmad Oathi, ex-MPA S A Hamid and other protesters. The police added another offence under Anti-Terrorism Act in the FIR.

The arrested identified as People’s Lawyers Forum joint-secretary Ahad Ramey, Abdul Jabbar and Hamidul Haq were sent to jail. Three lawyers — Ahmad Wasim Anjum Sulehria, Noman Aziz and Pervez Ahmad Oathi — were granted interim bail by a local court.

The court directed them to submit surety bonds worth Rs20,000 each.

PO KILLED: Police claimed on Tuesday to have killed a proclaimed offender in an encounter while his accomplice managed his escape near Wapda Town. Reports said PO Amjad Ali and his accomplice of Kunja (Gujrat) were on their way by a motorcycle. Near Wapda Town, a police party intercepted them. On seeing the police, they opened fire. During a shootout, Amjad Ali was killed on the spot while his accomplice managed to escape.

Saddar police removed his body to local DHQ hospital for autopsy.

On the other hand, his heirs Khalid Pervaiz and Manzoor Ahmad alleged that Amjad was killed by their rivals Ibrar and Riaz over a murder enmity with the help of police.
