PMAP supports Justice Iftikhar

PESHAWAR, March 13: The Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party held a demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday in protest against the president’s move of filing a reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry with the Supreme Judicial Council.

Speaking on the occasion, provincial PMAP chief Mukhtar Khan Yousufzai said Gen Musharraf himself had usurped the power by suspending the Constitution and he could not pass judgments on judiciary. He claimed that Gen Musharraf had taken all institutions hostage and was playing with the very existence of the country.

He said generals were authors of internal and external policies of the country and the entire nation was to bear the consequences of their unwise policies. An independent judiciary was custodian of people’s socio-economic and political rights and the rule of law, but the military rulers had crippled the judiciary to advance their personal agenda.

He said that on the one hand politicians wanted by NAB were sitting in the cabinet but on the other people like Justice Chaudhry were being mistreated.—Bureau Report
