KARACHI, March 13: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has directed the city government’s health department to remove garbage and spray insecticides in the city.
He issued these directives while chairing a meeting to review the ongoing fumigation campaign and post-rain situation in the city at his office on Tuesday.
The meeting was also attended by EDO Municipal Services Masood Alam, EDO Health Dr A.D. Sajnani, officials of health department and water board.
The nazim was informed that the city government with 48 vehicles mounted with fogging machines and 600 malaria staff started fumigation drive in all parts of the city.
He directed the officials concerned to spray insecticides not only in the areas being controlled by the city government but also in those areas, which are in the limits of other civic authorities. However, he observed that it was not a permanent solution.
The nazim asked to draw a comprehensive plan to install new drainage system in the city to resolve this problem permanently.
He said that the city government was paying full attention on those areas that were affected during the last monsoons and hoped that due to city government’s efforts the situation would improve in the next season.
Mr Kamal said the condition of roads completed by the city government recently was satisfactory as the newly install drainage system worked properly.
He added that the situation would further improve after the completion of all such projects relating to storm-water drains in the city.
