KARACHI, March 13: Sindh Local Government Minister Mohammed Hussain has said strict monitoring of performance of local government institutions would help strengthen them.

He was addressing the 35th meeting of Sindh Local Government Commission on Tuesday. The meeting considered formation of a team for City District Government Karachi to carry out its annual inspection and present its report to the commission.

The meeting reviewed the complaints and ongoing inquiries against Nazims, Naib Nazims and government officials all over the province and directed the concerned committees to complete their inquiries at the earliest and submit the same before the commission in its next meeting.

It was decided that a special inspection team would be set up for Larkana and offer another opportunity to former District Nazim, Naib Nazim, DCO and EDO Finance to clarify the allegations against them and have their position cleared.

The commission was informed that it had received 1,116 complaints so far from 17 districts including Tharparkar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroz, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad and Karachi. Of them, 554 complaints are under consideration while 562 have been disposed of.

The commission also took up inspection report of Dadu District based on the period from 2001 to 2005-06 and decided to submit it to the Chief Executive.—APP
