KARACHI, March 12: The city government has managed to drain rainwater from all major thoroughfares and low-lying areas within hours after the rain, said City Nazim Mustafa Kamal on Monday.

He said rainwater did not accumulate on the recently constructed roads, flyovers and underpasses, as none of them was built without installing the storm-water drainage system.

He said rainwater was easily drained in Clifton near Teen Talwar and the adjacent localities. There was no accumulation of rainwater and all water flowed through the trenches dug up to lay new storm-water drain.

Mr Kamal said that employees of the town and union council administrations were also working to drain out the accumulated water from the inner streets of their respective jurisdiction and the work in this regard would be completed by Monday night.

The city government said that no complaint was received from any part of the metropolis on Monday regarding accumulation of water.

Meanwhile, the administrations of all the 18 towns have planned a spray campaign beginning on March 13 .

During this drive, the staff of the city government and respective towns would spray insecticides from 4pm till sunset on all storm-water drains.

A spokesman of the city government said that the nazim directed the authorities concerned to spray insecticide in every area of the city.

According to the schedule, the spray will be carried out in Shah Faisal Town on March 13, Gadap Town on 14 March, Bin Qasim Town on March 15, Korangi Town on March 16, Lyari Town on 17 March, Keamari Town on March 19, Site Town on March 20, Baldia Town on March 21, Orangi Town on March 22, North Nazimabad on March 24, North Karachi on March 26, Liaquatabad Town on March 27, Gulshan Town on March 28, Saddar Town on March 29, Jamshed Town on March 30, Gulberg Town on March 31 and in Landhi Town the spray would be carried on April 2.
